Singapore is a vibrant island city-state that offers an exhilarating experience like no other. Known as the melting pot of cultures with its breath-taking skyline, and let’s not forget the mouth-watering cuisine. Here are ten things to (re-)introduce you to this dynamic metropolis.
1. The Skyline Marvel
Sinapore’s skyline showcases the city’s modernity. Marvel at iconic landmarks like the Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and the futuristic Supertrees. If you can’t get enough of it, head to the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck.
2. A Tapestry of Cultures
Singapore truly lives up to its title as a cultural melting pot. As you wander through the bustling streets, you’ll encounter a beautiful blend of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Western influences. Embrace this diversity by exploring different neighbourhoods like Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam, where traditions, architecture, and culinary delights await.

All these cultures bring their own cuisines which makes a delightful culinary scene to the city. Try out Haianese chicken rice, laksa, and chili crab and drink a refreshing local kopi (coffee). Embrace the Hawker culture and taste your way through Singapore.
4. Hawker Culture
We’re not done yet with all the food-talking. Singapore’s hawker culture is an essential part of the city’s identity. Explore the vibrant hawker centres and indulge yourself with the diverse culinary offerings.
TipLau Pa Sat and Maxwell Hawker Centre are two of our favourite hawker centre with lots of good food options. But also, try the more local hawker centres such as Chinatown Complex Food Centre.
5. Nature’s Oasis
Beyond the urban landscape, Singapore boasts a surprising amount of greenery. Visit the UNESCO-listed Botanic Gardens, where lush tropical flora offer a tranquil retreat. We didn’t have enough time to do more as we focused on the city centre, but nature enthusiasts should explore also the Southern Ridges, MacRitchie Reservoir, and Pulau Ubin, an idyllic island filled with biking trails and rustic charm.
6. Shopper’s Delight
Singapore offers a wide range of retail experiences making the city a shopaholic’s paradise. From luxury brands on Orchard Road to quirky boutiques in Haji Lane.
7. Street Art
Singapore’s streets are vibrant canvases,
with captivating street art. Stroll through the streets of Kampong Glam and
discover hidden murals.
8. Gardens by the Bay
Immerse yourself in the futuristic Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, where towering indoor waterfalls and diverse flora will transport you to another world. Witness the captivating Supertree Grove come alive during the nightly Garden Rhapsody light show.
As you might already read on our The ULTIMATE Three-Day guide to Singapore, every night there is a free lightshow at Gardens by the Bay and at Spectra. Timing is as follows, 19h45 and 20h45 at Gardens by the Bay and 20h and 21h at Spectra.
9. Adventurous Sentosa Island
For thrill-seekers and adventure lovers, Sentosa Island is a must-visit destination. Embark on adrenaline-pumping activities like zip-lining, bungee jumping, or indoor skydiving at the Mega Adventure Park. Unwind at the stunning beaches, visit Universal Studios Singapore, or catch the Wings of Time night show.
10. Respect Local Customs
As you explore Singapore’s cultural diversity, it’s important to respect local customs and traditions. Singaporeans appreciate modesty, so dress appropriately, especially when visiting religious sites. Remember to remove your shoes before entering certain establishments and be mindful of local customs and etiquette, such as not pointing with your index finger.
